This is a very common cooler so I was hoping you all would have seen what I am talking about before. Why would only one of the standoff bolts have the gasket material which is intended to protect the surface of your motherboard? Now I am not so sure I should reinstall the cooler? ![]() I see no evidence of the other 3 left on my motherboard. What I see now is that only one of my standoffs have the little black ring on the surface that touches the motherboard. You can try to exchange it, but you still need a cooler before booting. ![]() People say the EVO is dying, but in my opinion, it gets the job done. You can try and get the new backplate, but most coolers will require you to wait to ship out the new backplate. Some of that was actually a gummy substance that I've since Googled and appears to be an adhesive that is used to either keep a little rubber gasket/washer on the standoff or to help keep the standoff in place. The 'X' version doesnt come with a cooler. ![]() I noticed there are many traces right in the area and under the big standoffs that are provided with this cooler. The last time I pulled it off I noticed what I thought might be damage to the motherboard traces around the standoffs. If you've seen another thread I have you will know that I reinstalled my EVO 212 cooler many times due to a thermally unstable 4690k that is currently in RMA.
